Paul Wells Longer than I liked both times. Firstly remember we have a sternal wounds and a potential crash could reopen that wound so we need to be careful for many weeks. both times I only walked for the first 6 months at that time I felt like the heart was about 90% of its potential .remember during your illness that your heart had probably enlarged and now it must reshape itself and retime itself, so at 6 months I started very lightly running and for six months I worked on losing weight that I gained during my illness increasing my lung capacity and reconditioning my muscles. I didn't get back on the bike for a year after my surgery. after a year I feel like the heart is recovered about as much as it's going to and for here on out it's just conditioning ,gaining more endurance strengthen your muscles. I'm not near like I was years before my first surgery and I can no longer keep up with my peers but at least I can enjoy being on the road again. I hope this helps, and ask me any more questions or clarifications
if you like.
