About Me (In My Own Words)
On November 25th 2013, at 30 years old, I had OHS to replace my aortic valve with an ON-x mechanical valve. Recovery was good, and by 2.5 months after I was already cycling and rock climbing again. One day, 3 months after my surgery, I woke up with shortness of breath, which persisted. After a few days of testing, the doctors finally discovered that I most likely had endocarditis on my prosthetic valve and it was actually coming off (dehiscence). I had emergency OHS redo surgery, and they replaced the failing prostheic with a St. Judes mechanical valve, and also replaced my ascending aorta. That was March 15th 2014. Recovery was more difficult the 2nd time around, but once again, I am doing the things I love, particularly rock climbing and cycling.
I've been blogging about my journey at https://robovalve.wordpress.com/
