About Me (In My Own Words)
I had my aortic dissection on 8/22/2003 and just celebrated on 8/22/2018 15 years since at 40 years of age my aorta dissection half way up both carotid arteries and all the way down to my left illiac artery. Fast forward to 10/23/2018 I had my last echo done by renowned exert Catherine Otto at the U of W. I got new my aortic valve leak had gotten worse than my one 6 months ago. Also I got the news my aortic root was at 5cm. So, they suggested I look to get help and seek a thoracic surgeon. I am long time friends with Dr. Liang at Stanford who's helped me with my site, www.aorticdissection.com and of course he wants me to go to Stanford and I contacted Dr. Starners (who called me today) and I just sent them my last Echo and CT/Angio.
I have come full circle and realize that trying to have my surgery out of state will be tough on my wife and family. So, my thought now is to look to Dr. Brevig as he saved my life last time and get his thoughts. I also have an appointment with Dr. Paul Ryan who just happened to be on call the same night Dr. Brevig did my surgery and I read the report he assisted. He is now at Swedish. I also just got a call from the U of W about seeing Gabriel Adela?
I was feeling so light headed and nausea I almost thought something was majorly wrong. But I am attributing to my new BP meds. My other concern is what actually will be done for me. I know my existing Dacrhon would be removed and a new piece longer that would cover my aortic root and new valve. But, do I need the elephant trunk procedure where the replace my ascending aortic arch? I heard if I did it at Stanford, they would do it. Dr. Starnes at USC will get my CD's on Friday and I am gong to be interested on his view. And.. am I going to have to have my entire 14 inch scare re-opened again? Or perhaps a smaller one?
I love this site and I wish my site was more designed like this. Unfortunately, I am not able to do my site full time as I am an engineer with Comcast. but.. Adam's done a fantastic job... Very well done reviews and that's what it comes down to in my opinion, word of mouth about how your experience was. I think my case is one of these "one offs" that will require a highly skilled doctor and that's hopefully going to be able to be done near me vs having to travel to USC/Stanford or Sequioa.

Update 8/2019........ I met with the surgeons that will do my aortic valve and root replacement as well as possibly replace my existing dachron tube and possibly re-attach my main 3 arteries. Dr. Gabe Aldea and Dr. Chris Burke, both are the main surgeons at the University of Washington Thoracic surgery. Gabe told me it would be a 2 man operation and I can honestly say, he was the best doctor I have ever met with and I have seen a lo to doctors. His confidence and professionalism was 2nd to none. And... as well as Dr. Burke has some great aortic training too!.
Surgery scheduled for the Bental procedure with Dr. Gabriel Aldea at the U of W with Dr. Christopher Burke U of W surgeon Will get the new Resilia valve too. My old dacron used to fix my first dissection type A will be most likely replaced with new dacron. I am scheduled to meet with Gabe at the U of W on 11/12/19 with my wife and parents so they understand what the doctors will be doing during the surgery. My surgery date is set for 12/19/19. I am praying for a miracle and a speedy recovery. I can't wait to get back on the tennis court. :)
