About Me (In My Own Words)
I am a 38 year old female and was diagnosed with NYHA 4+ tricuspid regurgitation and pulmonary hypertension. I was told, locally, that there was nothing to be done and on a whim, contacted The Cleveland Clinic for a surgical review. My life has changed drastically in the 3 months since and i seems to be happening so fast . One positive in all of this is that I have the most excellent surgeon I could hope for. I traveled to Cleveland Clinic for the 1st time on August 26th for testing and a right heart cath. The visit got a bit shuffled around and I wound up having a right and left heart cath which they let me know was required before open heart surgery. The doctors, Dr.Dorositi and another one whom Im unsure of his name were wonderful to me. They were excellent both in explaining the procedure,as well as the risks and brnefits, all the way through the procedure during which they made me feel at ease. I met Dr.Pettersson while I was lying flat after the procedure. Prior to meeting 5th is man,I had no intention to even consider tricuspid surgery as it hasn't been practiced often, thus ending with non favorable results. I never would have imagined it possible to have met one person, for such a short period of time who exuded such skill, confidence, and compassion that could sway my convictions like he did. To this day I don't think he even realizes that I had zero intention on agreeing to any type of surgical intervention. But, now that it's around the corner I'm terrified. I haven't been back to Cleveland since and my apt where they will type, cross&match me,and I will meet with him to discuss the surgery isn't until oct.29th, which is mere days before the scheduled surgery. I don't know what to expect,as all of this is new to me.
