About Me (In My Own Words)
I had rheumatic fever as a child which became rheumatic heart disease. (Enlarged heart and murmurs) Have always known it was there but went about life. About 20 years ago it reminded me it was there. So fast forward, after watching it with echo's, EKG's and angiograms and medication, here I am. Cardiologist recommended a surgeon. Had surgery planned for a highly recommended area hospital until the hospital declined the surgery. That's when the recommendation for Stanford came up. I am trying to learn as much as I can but not much yet on the double surgery.
Had first visit with cardiologist and thoracic surgeon. After CAT Scans and PET scan it was determined that I have small cancer on left lung and the top of right lung is collapsed. (for whatever reason) Had biopsy of left lesion. yes cancer. Next week I am going for a bronchoscopy to biopsy the lymph nodes and see why the lung collapsed. Depending on results the decision will be made as to do the cancer and the heart valves at the same time or go another route on the whole thing. Trying to wrap my brain around all of this as I still feel pretty good. I tire easily and breathing is getting a little difficult when I exert myself. Praying for an early Christmas gift on the 21st when I have the bronchoscopy.
