About Me (In My Own Words)
Many years ago I was advised I had mitral valve prolapse. The leak was minor and I would follow up with an echocardiogram every year or so to monitor any changes. Results were always that same - no changes - until November of 2014 when I was advised that I had a more severe mitral valve leak and an aortic leak. In preparing for surgery at a future date to be determined, I recently had a heart catherization where they found significant blockage in two coronary arteries. This made the need for surgery more imminent.
Like so many others that have written on this website, this created a high level of fear and disbelief. Although I am now 55 and not necessarily exercising on a regular basis, I have always been fairly active and able to do longer weekend bicycle rides or cardio-type workouts at the gym without much problem. I would describe myself as having a healthy diet and a slim to medium build.
Although I don't anticipate communicating much on this site, I do plan to provide an update once recovery from my bypass and valve repairs or replacements is underway. I would be unable to say it any better than Adam Pick, or those who have already contributed their stories, however I hope to provide confirmation of the helpful information and positive advice available for the future valve surgery candidates who are fortunate enough to make their way to this website. The stories and information provided here can be priceless for many heart valve surgery candidates who, like me, have hard decisions to make about an uncertain life-changing future.
