About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello all... I came across this site late, one anxiety filled night during my recovery from open heart surgery; it helped me so much to read about others' experiences similar to mine.
I experienced vertigo for the first time several years ago and not knowing what it was I went to a walk-in clinic. There I was educated on my condition; this was also the first time I was asked how long I've had a heart murmur. Umm excuse me? I don't have a heart murmur. Well one cardiologist referral later... yup, heart murmur, aortic regurgitation. Visited my cardiologist yearly to keep an eye on it. A few years later, he sat me down and explained he was referring me for possibly a TAVR because the gap was much larger. So I went to Houston, had testing done, I was given my options but I for sure needed an aortic valve replacement. I was 46 at this time. Elected open heart surgery and a mechanical aortic valve. Turned out I had a bicuspid aortic heart valve. Now I'm the owner of a shiny new one with a serial number. Also had part of the aortic root replaced.
