About Me (In My Own Words)
I am now aged 77 and at various visits to a GP throughout my life I had been advised to be aware that I had a slight heart murmur which was possibly a result of experiencing Rheumatic Fever when I was aged 6. Year 2000 I was dealt a blow with Leukemia AML3 and was not given great hope of survival. I developed irregular pulse during my late 60's and 2 weeks after retiring from my work at age 75 I presented to my GP with a mild Stroke. I seemed to recover in hospital after a week but then 2 weeks later was experiencing eye closure in my right eye and was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. While coping with MG and the horrific Steroid medication my mitral valve showed signs of giving in and was having a great deal of trouble walking, talking and getting enough air in to my lungs. I was at this stage bloating with fluid retention in the abdomen and both lower legs. Dr Ura who is my heart surgeon advised that I was in a critical point but was reluctant to operate while I was on the steroid medication for MG but after conferring with the Neurologist who is treating the MG he decided to go ahead with the operation. The operation involved the open heart type where he unsuccessfully attempted to repair the mitral valve and replaced it with an animal valve. While he was working on the heart he discovered a hole which he repaired and also discovered that my Thymus Gland should be removed. So all sewn up and home but after 2 days back in Hospital with Covid 19 Boy If this did not hurt to cough! So again I survived. I have since undergone 2 episodes of cardio version but I am still in A-Fib. I guess after all this I do not have a great deal to complain about but I do still after 3 months experience pain in the pectoral region and it does hurt quite a bit to try rolling over in bed. If there is any safe exercises to perform to assist with the mending of these muscles it would be appreciated.
