About Me (In My Own Words)
After breast cancer surgery in October 2011, I received 33 days of radiation treatment. They failed to inform me that 50% of women who receive this treatment develop heart problems which usually don't show up for ten to fifteen years. However, I defied the odds. My heart had no morbidity issues until suddenly twelve months later the doctor heard a bad sound - severe aortic stenosis. I have been monitored by my cardiologist using echocardiogram technology with no further change or symptoms until now. My cardiologist had talked me into the wonderful TAVR stint, however my surgeon (formerly from the Cleveland Clinic) feels that there is not sufficient data on the time period the TAVR will function and taking into consideration my age and good health, now is the time to solve the problem completely and have the full mini sternotomy open chest aortic valve transplant.
