About Me (In My Own Words)
A heart murmur was detected when I was 19. My doctors have been monitoring it for 46 years (I'm 65). At my last annual physical (February) my doctor detected an increase in regurgitation. An ECG revealed I have a broken ligament which pulls the mitral valve closed. Now a portion of the valve is flapping, allowing much more regurgitation (ECG pix are amazing). Although I'm asymptomatic, surgery is highly recommended before damage to the heart occurs.
I was terrified at the thought of open heart surgery! My wife got me Adam's book. I read it in a day and it absolutely changed my mind frame from terror to confident. I can't wait to "get 'er done" and enjoy the rest of my life with a healthy, repaired heart valve!
