Just want to say thank you to Adam and to everyone that commented on my posts. I'm 3 weeks out from a Ross procedure performed by Dr. El-Hamamsy at Mt Sinai in Manhattan. Couldn't have gone better. I've been in almost no pain the entire time other than when I sneeze which isn't too bad. I have been off all meds for over a week other than Naproxen which is for inflammation. I have been walking on my own since the day after surgery. I'm up to 3 miles per day. I sleep more than I used too and nap daily which I never did before. Small price to pay for such a huge success!

Does anyone have experience with Dr. El-Hamamsy at Mt Sinia in New York? I have my Ross procedure scheduled for next Wednesday and just looking for extra information. Hopefully warm fuzzies, LOL, but even negative info would be appreciated. I'd also be interested in Ross recovery experiences. Thanks!

Sue Maize I’m Canadian Alex and both surgeons I consulted with here know of him well and he is held in high esteem—he began doing the RP at the Montreal Heart Institute and is among the best worldwide. His doctoral dissertation is called the Living Valve and is all about the Ross, worth a read even if you’re not a medical person. That said, there are so many people in this community who know from personal experience what he’s like and I’m sure you’ll hear from some! His reputation for surgical skill as well as bedside manner would make anyone fortunate to have him as their surgeon I’d bet. I’d encourage you to check out the Facebook group Ross patients and their Families—lots of his patients there too! You’d be in excellent hands! God bless! ❤️🩹🙏🏻
Sue Maize Sorry group is called, Ross Procedure Support Network, the other was a subtitle.

Grace Mason Hi Alex, I had surgery with Dr El-Hamamsy 8 months ago and I would highly recommend him. He is impressive "on paper", as well as, very personable. I was surprised and pleased when he came and personally checked on me in my room a couple days in a row, post surgery, given how busy he must be. I had surgery on a Tuesday morning and was ready to go to my hotel by Saturday morning. I am happy to answer any questions you might have. You can read my journal if you want to check out my recovery. I had a few complications late (4 weeks out) that were resolved pretty easily, but not any of the ones I was most worried about, such as AFib, transfusion, or the need for a pacemaker post surgery. I feel fortunate to have been able to have Dr El-Hamamsy for my surgeon.

Does anyone know of a good continuous blood pressure monitoring device that works during exercise? I want to make sure I don't go over a certain threshold so as not to exacerbate my condition. Is this something that will be prescribed once I have my valve surgery?
Max Jam Hey Alex, i got the wrist one from amazon. It works great for during workouts.

I am 48 years old and was just changed from moderate to severe bicuspid aortic stenosis and have a stable aortic aneurism of 4.4 cm. The rest of my heart is stable and in good shape. I was told 45% blockage of my LAD is typical for someone my age. Seems high. I don't want to be on blood thinners for the rest of my life but I also don't want a bigger problem going another route. I would also like to avoid open heart but again I don't want to sacrifice successfulness for comfort. Does anyone suggest any procedures or surgeons for my condition? I'm all ears. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Alex

Valerie Allen Hi Alex! Just so you are aware, under the menu on the top right there is a Surgeon Finder which can be accessed by state or name. Many of us travel for a particular surgeon. I believe you can also filter by procedure. I lived in Knoxville for 40 years or so!

Marie Myers You could research the Ross Procedure, as well as aortic valve repair and aortic aneurysm wrapping procedure. These are some options that would spare the anticoagulants . These should only be done by centers and surgeons who do a lot of these particular cases. Time to do some research!

Susan Lynn Alex - Before you have any treatment, you're going to get the full heart work up. Surgeons don't want patients to be subjected to procedures more than necessary if it can be avoided. The Ross procedure is a great route - your doctor may not address the aneurysm unless it gets bigger. The benefit always has to outweigh the risks. Good luck with your research.

Jennifer Fuller Dark, rainy weather always gets me down too, even though I kind of love it. 🤷♀️ This seems to have gotten worse after surgery. Getting outside first thing in the morning when it is sunny, even for a short while, does seem to help. Though grilled cheese with tomato soup and a hot chocolate sure won’t hurt. ☺️

Alex Mohr Thanks everyone! Finding this site and community felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I have several appointments and am much more confident in the ross procedure. As scary as it is, the results are exactly what I want.
Thanks again!
