Does anyone know whether Medicare has restrictive criteria that is used to qualify or disqualify patients from TAVR?

There is a new trial being run for TAVR with bicuspid valves. I emailed for info, but haven't received a response. The trial is only for patients at low risk for surgery.

Marie Myers Yes. My friend who had TAVR 1 1/2 yrs ago at age 98 had her info given to a committee . The committee was a group of hospital surgeons, cardiologists, and other docs who studied her case , and ultimately did offer her TAVR. it worked well for her. But the committee had to decide if they would offer it to her. It was no automatic "yes" decision on the part of the hospital and medical staff.

The journey continues. I'm now scheduled into OHSU in Portland (Oregon) for testing on November 19th and a consult visit the following day. I'll be doing a TAVR CT-Scan, another echocardiogram and bloodwork. And I'm told any procedure that would be scheduled would be about a month out from then, plus or minus. Seems like progress to me. In the meantime, I'll read up about the heart and learn more about the topic than I ever wanted to have to know. It's all good. That's it for now.

So then, I’m benched but not sent to the showers. Got diagnosed one week ago today. Aortic valve is shot. Also need a pair of stents for two branch arteries. Waiting to hear if I qualify for TAVR. Not anxious. It is what it is. And this is easier, much easier, to get my head wrapped around than the CLL + ITP diagnosis I received nine years ago. Those are a non-issue today. Thank you Lord! This too shall pass.
