I'm so thankful for all your journals and blogs, because for some crazy reason, I came into this recovery thinking I'd be fully recovered at six weeks, able to return to work close to full-time, with minimal to no pain, and have enough energy to chase after a screaming toddler in the midst of the "terrible twos" AND a super-energetic first grader. Oh yeah, I forgot - I also planned to take Brene Brown's advice ("Daring Greatly") to begin training for a 5K AND take up piano again so I can enter an amateur competition before my 1 year valversary.
*SNORT*. Uh, yeah, right.
It's 2:30am. In the morning. My incision itched like nobody's business all evening and again at midnight, waking me up after 2 hours of sleep. Not sure if it's the sunscreen (Water Babies, SPF 50 for those curious) or the possibility my incision got sunburned (see photo showing the scar exposed earlier today). Woke hubby up who, bless his heart, put aloe gel on it. Itchiness went away, followed by PAIN from all my stretching, turning in bed, etc. So even though it's been weeks, I took a Percocet at 1:30am. Still not sleeping. Grrr.
Of course that is one aspect I didn't expect. I also didn't expect to go thru dizzy spells on a daily basis, helped only slightly by Midodrine. I was diagnosed with orthostatic hypotension a few weeks back, and the dr's are hoping that this will reduce with time and cardiac rehab. Of course, part of this is my doing, as we have been outside in 80 degree weather in the sun all day today. I got dehydrated even tho I kept drinking fluids all day, leaving me with a lovely bp of 90/58. π
All in all, however, it is Sunday, and I really have been blessed. And I was reminded of that during my kids' friend's birthday party today when our friends (orher kids' parents) took wonderful care of me while I sat on the sidelines, watched all the kids jump around The Little Gym and get high on an early dinner of pizza and cake. Hubby, bless his heart, has been great, helping our littlest one navigate thru balance beams and high bars while I chatted and caught up with other parents, some for the first time since surgery. Did I tell you he drove all day too?!? And the kids had a great time π.
I almost forgot... we also "mysteriously" found $40 in reward dollars thru the frequent eater's club of the restaurant where we went for brunch this morning. So free food all day for the four of us!
As Charlie Brown once said, "It hasn't been such a bad day after all."
Good night!
Duane Beeman Sounds like it's all good.....mostly. Keep it up.

Lewis Garlisi Patience would probably be the word of the day for you (for the next few weeks too). I was told that sunscreens should not be an issue, because the incision should not even be exposed to the sun. But then yours looks much better at 7 weeks being exposed to the sun than mine did without.
