Getting ready for Ross procedure tomorrow. Found out I have a bi-cuspid aortic valve as an accidental finding during testing for a pulmonary embolism about 4.5 years ago. At the time the aortic stenosis was mild and I was asymptomatic up until this past summer. Recent testing showed the stenosis had progressed to severe level. After consulting with my cardiologist Dr. Znamensky and my cardiovascular surgeon Dr. van Boxtel @ Morristown Hospital we decided on the Ross procedure. The valve replacement will enable me to live a full and active life. My bucket list goal post recovery is to do the Lake Placid Ironman with my brother in-law and friend.
I have found heartvalvesurgery.com to be extremely helpful to gather information and review options for successfully treating a bicuspid aortic valve with stenosis and what my family and I can expect for both the procedure and recovery process.
Looking forward to a successful procedure tomorrow Nov 19th!

Brad DeMarco Thanks everyone for the positive thoughts, very much appreciated. The surgery went very well on Tuesday. Was moved to ICU on Wednesday and Cardiac care wing on Thursday. Last tube (lung one) was removed this morning. The first two came out on Thursday. Had slight afib on Friday after first bathroom trip. It has been corrected with Medication. As folks mentioned above fatigue is the big hurdle more than pain. Very grateful for successful procedure, the team providing care (Dr van Boxtel and staff staff @ Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute Morristown Hospital) and support of family & friends. Hopefully today I can walk three times.
