Enrique K Brenda, welcome to the community of heart valve patients. I'm 10 weeks post-op had an aortic root and a tissue porcine valve replacement minimal invasive surgery right side of the chest. I am doing wonderful and every week it gets better. You will learn the experiences of many heart valve patients in this forum. You will get through this!

Brenda Miller Thank you to all of you that has replied I appreciate your reassuring words and encouragement ...as I am feeling very alone in ...I live in Northwestern Ontario...unfortunately...the opposite end of the province from Toronto Ontario...awaiting for an appointment with cardiac surgeon Dr Tirone David...The Valve decision is huge ...I am 54yrs old and my cardiologist has recommened a mechanical valve...not thrilled about blood thinners and noise...thinking a porcine valve with hopes of breakthrough bionics replacement in the next decade or so....perhaps done via groin....I have heard that once a mechanical valve is installed that it cannot be replaced with a new upcoming bionic valves...any decision tips for me?

Anne Walpole I know each person's situation is different, but if your surgeon insists on a mechanical valve, I definitely would recommend you get a second opinion. Look at all the relevant videos on this site, many of which support people your age getting the pig valve, with the expectation that a future valve could likely be placed through the groin as you said. Second or third opinions (after lots of research) can be so helpful to arrive at the best choice for your individual situation. π

Wanda Mroz Best of luck to you. I only had a mitral valve fix, but would have gone with a pig valve if needed. I just didn't want the thinners. It is all up to you and how you feel. Go with what your gut tells you... that is usually the best course. You will be fine... prayers your way.
