I want to give my gratitude to Adam and the lovely people who I have been reading from.
After spending my first year since surgery out and about on my own, I got home to a yummy meal and my partner and I sat together to prepare our Christmas Day meal! I went off to the gymnasium this evening and gave myself a good workout.
When I was diagnosed last year in July, I was blindsided. I was the fittest I'd ever been - running, weights and 25 kilos lighter. I am still trying to overcome my association of going to the gymnasium and having great fitness levels with my diagnosis. One day at a time...I keep reminding myself!

Tomorrow is my first year anniversary since i had my mitral valve repaired. i wanted to have a day of celebration with my partner - but feel they are tired of hearing about it. i don't know about any of you, but the diagnosis and repair changed many facets of my life. i am going to celebrate - on my own though. my partner (though not sure if that is the case anymore) has made other plans. I feel i've burdened people around me. I will be spending the day out. Breakfast with my kids in the morning, then off to visit some country towns. it has been a roller coaster and though i am feeling much better these days, i know that the event shocked me to my core... i don't want to sound as though i'm a negative individual - because i am not. how have others coped? do you feel as though you've been a burden?

Lenore Mitchell Yes, you deserve to celebrate. Once we experience a serious health issue, our perspectives change and we tend to look at life differently. I've had other surgeries, but my first heart surgery is upcoming, this January, and it's hard not to dwell on it. Take care and be happy.

Nancy D I am only 3 months out, have always been a positive, thankful person, but this has really consumed me since June when testing started. After August I had much support, care and prayers for me recovery and I will be forever thankful. I am even more in awe of the simple pleasures of life, and am so pleased to be here to appreciate them. Celebrate for you today, and find joy in everything around you. Even those closest to us, who have never had this experience can really appreciate how it affects us. Be kind to yourself, and celebrate in a way that makes you happiest. I baked my husband his favorite cake twice since surgery for no special occasion other than to thank him for all he did to support me in this journey!! Take good care, enjoy what is in store for you in this life!!
