I had a valve replacement last April 2016 my chest is still tight and heavy and my shoulder joints going back to shoulder blades down to waist is sore , i have pleural effusion which makes me feel uncomfortable hard to breath , with swelling legs are these normal and how long will it take away , can you please share your experience i'm so depresed about this, but like what others says fight fight fight and think positive.

Cynthia Morales Hi Mary i heard that you had also water retention what did the doctors do to get rid of that, i took lasix for 3 weeks 1/2 doze only but until now i still have edema, my weigh in the morning is 132 lbs at the end of the day is 134 - 135. And also i have afib the surgeon told me before the replacement of valve it would be corrected but it didn't.

Mary Wagner Lasix (2 of them at a time) did not get rid of the water. They gave me butemax and doubled it for 2 days. I lost all 11 pounds in a few days. I ended up with atrial flutter at about 12 weeks in. Cardiologist did a cardio version and I went right back to a regular rhythm.

I hear you on the chest being tight. I kept waiting for that tight feeling to pass, and it is still there but I have now grown used to it. I wish I had been told that the chest feels like that for many patients for a long (and it's normal)....
