Hello,
Just found out recently I have a bicuspid aortic valve with stenosis like my father. Met with the surgeon yesterday and we setting up heart ath, lung function tests to get the surgery date set up. In researching replacement options, I'm leaning toward mechanical due to my age (57) and I'm wondering if anyone has had a ON-X valve used for their AVR replacement. Looks like the ON-X is similar to the St Judes, but is made from carbon fiber which allows a INR of 1.5 - 2.0 instead of the normal INR of 2.5 - 3.5 for regular mechanical valves. I'm still researching but if anyone has additional info I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
p.s. my Dad ticked for over 37 years with a Star Edwards valve, so I'm a little familiar with the Coumadin issues and concerns.

Craig Gay Craig had the On-X valve put in 4 weeks ago. His range is 2-3 for the first 3 months then will drop to 1.8-2.0 after that. We've not made any adjustment to his diet and everything has been in range. After 3 months, his dose of Coumadin will be very low, given the fact he's not on much right now. I know some people have had a hard time with Coumadin but I feel the secret to regulating your levels is just eat what you normally do and let them adjust the amount of Coumadin they give you. Also, the valve is quiet, he really only hears it when it's really, really quiet in the house. Best of luck with your decision. Craig is 48 and has multiple sclerosis and other ailments so one surgery was very appealing to us. Yvonne
David Payne Thanks for the responses Clare and Craig .
