I am 8 months out from having aortic repair and valve replacement. I'll be turning 48 this year. I have a question about resting heart rate and BP meds. I was on Lopressor after my surgery until about 3 weeks ago. I asked my cardiologist if I could go off them because I felt I was having some negative side effects (weight gain, lethargy). Since stopping my energy if much better and my weight is starting to go down. However, I have noticed that my resting heart rate and blood pressure have started to creep upward. Before stopping the Lopresor my resting heart rate was around 65, now three weeks after stopping it has steadily increased to around 82. Blood pressure was at 110/70 now is 130/85.
Other than wondering about the significance of these numbers I feel great.
What are your resting heart rates and BP? Anyone have any similar experiences?
Thanks!

Mary Myers I had to decrease me lopressor as my blood pressure and heart rate were to low. Also noticed weight gain. I still am.on ita low dose.12.5mg twice daily. Originally 50 mg. Twice daily. My energy level has improved tremendously. My cardiologist wanted me to stay on it. Would talk to your cardiologist about your increase in HR and blood pressure.

Nancy D I would speak to the dr, although your HR and B/P isn't alarming, he/she may want you to taper off or be on a slightly lower dose for a bit. I got off all those meds very early on as I had problems with low blood pressure. My resting heart rate was in the high 80's to 90 for a few months, but has now settled in about mid 70's which is more my normal pre valve problems and surgery.

Gerald Schaffer I'd ask if there is another medication that you can try that won't have the side affects. I'm on Nadolol which controls my pvc's and heart rate. I'm on other meds for blood pressure. Maybe it's just finding the right drug for you. At least your numbers are not that high.
