For me, who is never sick, has never had a thing wrong with me or thought I didn't, I am not liking this new direction I am going to. I guess I am a little afraid of what comes next.
I know I have to have surgery on my mitral valve and I am trying to accept that it is a pretty common surgery but it is still the heart and it is still open heart surgery.
Bugger!!

Tammy Pilcher Denise, I've always been healthy too and didn't realize I had something wrong with me that was already in the critical stages. The thing I've tried to remind myself is that this was something that could be fixed and 20 days ago was fixed. You can do this and you will feel so much better to know it's done. Best wishes, Tammy

Melinda Hacker Same here Denise. I'm healthy too except I have always known about having a bicuspid aortic valve. 30 days ago I had my aortic valve replaced so now I'm all better😊. My surgery experience wasn't too bad. Just remember that with today's advancement in medicine and technology, open heart surgery seems to be SO perfected. For me, other than having a baby, this was my first experience in a hospital. I was amazed at how well everything went. I was back at home in 4 days. You can do this!

Denise Castillo Hi Kathleen, I feel so pleased that there is someone else who was wondering the same thing. I chose the mechanical for this reason but now I am wondering if I should have the tissue valve but then again I was told the valve would only last 8-10 years and yes that would mean another surgery. I live in Australia so I am wondering if the valve types are different here

kathleen savoy I don't know. I would think they would be the same though. This was the first that I have heard of a tissue valve lasting 30 years. My cardiologist told me that he has some patients who have had their tissue valves for 20 years. I am going to discuss this with my surgeon.
