I had my post- surgery chest X-ray last week and was thrilled to have my surgeon tell me that the sternum looks "fabulous", and I am cleared to resume all normal activities. He said it's OK to drive, go to yoga, the chiropractor, and the hairdresser! YAH! I have started to put Vitamin E oil on my scar now and I wondered what others have used. Should I just stick with the vit E? My surgeon did mention avoiding exposure to the sun also. I feel good except I have vertigo, pulled something in my lower back, a pain in the side of my neck, and woke up with a huge herpes on my nose 2 days ago! But I won't complain too much because I am just glad about the sternum and all the rest that's going well.

Meredith Bray I just used my regular facial moisturizer, and maybe some coconut oil. Definitely use sunblock & higher neckline tops if you'll be out in the sun over the next year or so. My scar was invisible to nearly everyone but me after 18 months.

I am about 4 1/2 weeks post surgery and am wondering about the twinges of pain I get in my chest periodically. Is it normal. It seems to be something new. It's kind of a sharp burning feeling. It comes and goes. I also have a very sore area on the side of my neck. A tightness. It is the kind of thing I'd see my chiropractor about. When can I do back to that?

Hello. I have continually returned to this website both before and after my surgery, which was August 26, 2016. I have googled for information on many different topics and this website always popped up in the search results and never failed to be helpful. I finally figured that if I am returning to this site so often, I at least ought to join it. So here I am.

Diana Garvey Thanks, Catie and Amy. I think my recovery is going well. I am walking about 1.5 miles outside every day. (in 1/2 mile increments). I am sleeping better now that I can turn on my side. I only need tylenol occasionally instead of around the clock. i have more energy and even did some light housekeeping yesterday. (dog hair everywhere was getting to me) I am hoping the surgeon tells me I can drive again when I see him next week.
