Tomorrow (October 30, 2023) I am having heart valve replacement surgery. I am 63 years old and have decided on a mechanical valve. I have a bicuspid valve and TAVR is not recommended. I was told I had a heart murmur in my 20’s; however, I wasn’t aware I still had it until August, 2022. Last May I was referred to a cardiologist and saw him in July. Had an echo, then a heart cath (no blockages…yay!), a carotid artery test and finally, a cardiac MRI on Thursday. Surgery is at 7:30 a.m. at Ascension St. Vincent’s in Jacksonville, Florida.

Jennifer Fuller Donna, your story is very similar to mine. I was diagnosed in my 20’s with a murmur, then an echo detected the bicuspid valve. There was no stenosis, leakage, etc. at that time. I did nothing about it for many years. Lived my life, had a baby, etc. Now at 53 I feel very lucky I didn’t progress into hear failure at some point. I was somehow unaware for 25+ years that this could be a problem. 🤷♀️
Klara Čičić Dear Donna, sounds like you are ready, good luck and keep us updated! You can do this!!
