I haven't checked in for awhile but have been reading patient news. I have recently finished sending all my forms and test results to Mt. Sinai where I have an appointment with Dr. David Adams in July.
I have mitral valve regurgitation that is moderate but I want to be ready and know where I want to go if and when it becomes severe. I have read this can happen quite suddenly. My symptoms are mostly some shortness of breath and fatigue. I am taking Pravastatin and I have found that makes me tired too. So sometimes its just hard to figure out what is making me tired.
I get a lot of encouragement reading patients news. I find get anxious and I read that isn't uncommon. I found a previous patient from this blog and she has ben a great source of comfort and encouragement.
My husband tries to understand when I get depressed or anxious but I can get a lot of understanding in support groups and friends. Thanks for listening.... Linda

Laura Jacobs Hi Linda, The good folks in this community have helped me a lot. It is comforting to know that the anxiety is normal and not at all a sign of weakness. No matter how much support your family provides, there is something special about the support of people experienced in big life event that you are also facing. The value of their experience cannot be measured. I feel so much more prepared, both mentally and in simple practical tips to make the way smoother. Best of luck to you Linda!

I don't think there is anyone who is not anxious during the wait for surgery. It's hard. I verify all that you are feeling, and wish you some peace. Just talking about it and being honest can already be helpful. Take care.

Diane Capece HI Linda. Dr. Adams did a mitral valve repair and a tricuspid valve repair last August on me. I did great and after 5- 6 weeks I was back to normal. Couldn't believe I had open heart surgery. I was 63 at the time of the surgery and in pretty good health. Let me know if you have any questions.

Linda Mahan Diane thank you for responding. I need a mitral valve repair and possibly a tricuspid. Right now the mitral valve has moderate leakage and tricuspid is slight. I am in that "watchful waiting" stage. But I know that moderate can change to severe quickly and I want to know beforehand where I want to go.
Did you see Dr. Adams before you actually needed surgery? Did he do any tests while you are there? I have researched a lot and would like to get it repaired rather than replaced. Did you find Dr. Adams supportive and caring as he seems?
Some days I am so fearful. Its all kind of scary.
I am so happy you had such a great outcome. It really helps hearing from you. Thanks again!!

Diane Capece I had a consult with Dr. Adams in June and the surgery was August 2nd. He guaranteed me 100% that he would be able to repair both valves and not replace them. There was question as to whether or not my aortic valve had to be replaced but he felt by repairing the mitral and tricuspid my aortic would improve, which it did. I only saw him one time post open in the hospital, but his entire team was great. I did have to get an echo repeated at my local hospital before my consult with Dr. Adams but he accepted all my other previous test results. You can call me if you like. My number is 570-788-8369.

I haven't posted for a while. I am trying to find a statin that I can tolerate without all the discomfort and brain fog. I have been collecting all my medical records together. I joined a support group which is going to be helpful and now I need to get a second opinion. I want to have my choice of surgeon now so I will be ready for surgery if and when my regurgitation is severe. I have moderate mitral valve regurgitation. There is also trace pulmonic and tricuspid regurgitation.
Has anyone had Dr. David Adams at Mt. Sinai hospital? I like what I have read about his procedure but would love to hear from anyone willing to share their experience at Mt. Sinai. I would love to hear other Doctor recommendations and experiences. Thanks
