Am having my aortic and mitral valves replaced on November 3rd. Unfortunately am overweight and have COPD. Dr. Tranbaugh at Beth Israel knows the surgery will be successful, but concerned about my recuperation. Anyone else out there a high-risk and give me some encouragement, as i'm getting more and more nervous the closer it gets to the date.

Hi Nancy, it is nice to hear back from you. I just noticed you are going to Beth Israel, thats great you are going to such a good hospital, I grew up in Boston, so I am familiar with B.I. It has been helpful for me to see all the other people on this site facing the same things. i don't live alone but i am single and live with my two sons. i strongly believe we are all going to get through these things with flying colors. sending good thoughts!

Nancy Rigney I was so frightened going into my surgery since i was high risk, and was amazed that the day after the aortic and mitral valve replacement i actually felt great. thank you Dr. Trambaugh for doing such a great job. There is barely a scar there. Now, its been 6 months since surgery and i'm back to being my old self.
