Tammi Gunwall I'm 3 wks from surgery and have them a lot. I totally get what your going through! They say it's common to have a rush of emotions after heart surgery. Just knowing that has helped me understand and accept it. Remember to be patient with yourself and your feelings. You've been through a lot!!!
Jim Kelly-Evans Seems to be a normal reaction, Sandy. Sending hugs.

Jimene Jetton Sandy, I had my first OHS in Dec 2013 and was warned about the emotional roller coaster and it hit hard. All of my dr's have told me this is normal since I had been so active all the time and now had to "slow down" so I could heal better. All I can say, is it does get better. When you start getting down, just remember, this is our second chance, and think of all the things you will be able to do again.

Meredith Bray Very common! It's frustrating to have slow progress, fast progress, sleep all the time, even though you have more energy. At two weeks I was still taking two naps a day, small meals, trying to get my digestion back to normal, fighting with my blood about INR, trying to do some physical therapy, all while keeping my emotions in check. I found that the more time I spent outside in the sunshine, moving around (even shuffling up and down the driveway!) the better my moods got and the longer they lasted.
It'll get better each day!

Patricia Garcia Sandy this is very common. Your body has been through trauma. I will be at 3 weeks on Monday and I have had my ups and downs. We struggle to do basic things like self care, cleaning and living the life we once lived. The fear of the unknown. Is the valve going to fail or something going to go wrong. In time you will get your confidence back and feel yourself again.

kathy lesnau Sometimes I think its similar to PTS (post traumatic syndrome). From diagnosis to recovery there is so much stress and emotion that you can experience. Often its not until its "over" and during recovery that you let your guard down and let those emotions come through freely. It should lessen as you feel better and stronger. Take care and don't be afraid to discuss this with your doctor if it becomes overwhelming.

Meredith Bray ^^ What Kathy said! We spend so much time pre-op pretending to be strong, and afterward you're practically helpless and such. Cardiac rehab is a blessing - the physical movement, along with the reassurance from the techs and the nurses that everything is working just fine.
