About three weeks ago I had my bicuspid aortic valve replaced. I am happy to report that all post operative exams and tests are very good, I’m walking 20-30 minutes each day, managing with little pain, and getting more mobile each week. However, I do seem to have some some collateral damage to my left shoulder, arm, and ring/pinky fingers regarding ulnar nerve sensations. My research into this seems to say that this is relatively common due to the position you are put into during open heart surgery. I plan on seeing a physical medicine doc in a couple of weeks…..but I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this??? If so, did it go away by itself? Thanks so much………Saul

Klara Čičić Hi Saul, I am glad your postoperative tests are fine. My surgery was also 3 weeks ago. My right shoulder (I had right mini thoracotomy) , right arm, right shoulder blade hurts, I have stabbing sensations, numbness, pins and needles... I also plan physiotherapy next week or maybe a bit later. I am not much worried about that because during operation nerves were damaged. And nerves need a lot of time to heal, even up to year. I am hoping with time it will become less and less ... I have read a lot of stories here on this site where things got better with time, that's why I am not so worried.
