This was not as bad as my 1st surgery. I am surprised. I tried posting while in the hospital but i was not coordinated enough. I ended up staying in for the full week because I had extremely low bp. So as of right now I'm not on any bp medication. & my bp is doing just fine. Have gone on some walks today & while in hospital did multiple laps. Any how I am up & mobile doing fine. Best wishes to all!

Sherri Hendry Hi Ellen - I guess everyone is different. My 1st surgery was an incision under my right breast. At the time I could not have conceived of doing a full sternum. But now looking back and comparing the two - so far the sternum procedure has been easier on me and I'm taking very little pain meds. But I guess I would have never known if I hadn't done both. What is really weird though any pain I felt from both surgeries have been mainly from my right shoulder blade. Again thanks for the kind wishes!
Catie B Great to hear things are going well for you, Sherri! Keep on healing!

Sorry for the update below - hit the wrong button. Anyhow, few days away from my 2nd surgery (29th). I think my friends and family are more wound up about it than I am. I am looking forward to getting this done and over with. I know there'll be some up and downs and at times. I may even be hating life during recovery, but in the end all will be good. Looking forward to being able to exercise again - something I haven't been able to do in a couple of months and have gained weight because of it. Most of all I want my energy level and my stamina back. What's that Garth Brooks song..."too damn young to feel this damn old".
Anyhow, wishing everyone the very best in their recoveries and upcoming surgeries. Reading your posts does help and give one strength and encouragement.
Surgery is Monday the 29th. Have to be at the hospital (which is in Virginia and I live in Maryland) at 5 AM. Probably won't get much sleep the night before.

Mary Wagner Sherri - I had surgery in 1990 and then in March at Inova. Care was spectacular! I ended up with an aneurysm and Dr. Speir thought he would have to replace the 26 year old valve but when he got in - said it still looked good as new.
Stay in touch!

Ron Broadhead Hi Sherri. You have a great attitude on this - looking towards a better life after the surgery. I was pretty much the same way and it really does help. Best wishes for a successful surgery and a good recovery.
Catie B Best to you, Sherri. I hope everything goes smoothly!
Thanks for the good wishes! Mary - I wanted to let you know I am going w/ the same practice that I went with before and Dr. Speir is a member of. So yes they are wonderful! And you're right, INOVA is outstanding! I could have gone to other well known hospitals in the DC area, but I know the care at INOVA and couldn't see a reason why to go anywhere else.
Again thanks for the well wishes and you all take care as well!

Funny, now that I've narrowed down the when, I am relatively calm, just like when I did my 1st surgery. I remember reading Adam's book back in 2008, something he wrote really put things into perspective for me..the word "FEAR". Meaning of the unknown. Once I dealt with that, all my worries were put aside. I simply looked at it like this, "have the surgery and yes you will be in pain for a little bit, but it will eventually subside and you will feel like your old self again." "Don't have the surgery, and you know the consequences - death." So once I got over that, I was able to go forward. Sort of how I feel now. I'm ready.
Anyhow, I wish everyone well. And I'm sure other who have been through a surgery before will agree...a positive attitude going into this journey, will help you get through it to the other side to recovery.
