I have 4.9 cm dilation with moderate stenosis and bicuspid aortic valve was given choice to watch or do surgery. I'm very active and was told if I wait that I would have to seriously modify my activities. Dr Pochitinno told me if I do surgery there would be no limitations, what has been your experience so far?
Gail Magnus Do it sooner rather than later. Absolutely!!!

Sharmin Atker Waiting is the hardest part, so I would do the surgery, now. Because I had difficulties accepting I needed the surgery and no support from people close to me, I put it off for about ten months. I don't know what your insurance is like, but mine had an out of pocket max. If I had done it earlier in the year, I had it done in November, I wouldn't have met my deductible so early this year, I had to have a Stress Test, and have to pay for cardiac rehab. Aside from the waiting and finances, you'll be able to continue with your activities. Good luck with whichever way you chose.

David Brunkhorst Sorry, haven't checked in for quite a while. I was 4.8 when I had my surgery. It's not going to fix its self. Do it while you have no symptoms, not after you begin to have problems. Just sayin.

A craft show. We travel the Midwest doing shows. It is downtown at the convention center. My husband will be at a show in Omaha that weekend also so my son will be helping me. I would love to have him talk with you but that probably won't work. If you happen to be down there it is march 21 and 22. I think they call it the Spring Craft Show hopefully it feels more like spring by then! My son and I would love to meet you I'm sure we would have lots of questions if you don't mind.
If it works out email me and I will give you my cell #. Thanks Sandy

David Brunkhorst Mine is the On-X. My blood thinner level, "Protime" can be lower than the older mechanical valves. Mine can be loud in the middle of the night if I wake up, it in my head. It doesn't bother anyone else. A show in Sioux City? What kind of show? I'm here almost all the time.

So glad to hear a positive for mayo! My husband has surgery scheduled with same surgeon on April 23. We thought we wanted mechanical valve but have been thinking tissue because of blood thinners. My husband is 60 and very active works with saws for our business. We have seen 2 cardiologist up there and met with dr. Pochatinno he suggested mechanical also this was in May. They never gave us reasons why mechanical. We go for pretests in April so we will have discussions and decide.

David Brunkhorst I am 51. And it was explained to me that I would most likely ware out a tissue valve in 10-13 years. I didn't want to go through this again. I am nervous about cutting my self too. So far no problems. I run my blood thinners at the lowest possible levels. I was impressed with Dr. Pochettino. He does a lot of these. Mine was the big one because of the mechanical valve replacement and the aneurism repair. But when he is done with you, you will need to get a trusted cardiologist. I didn't like mine here in Sioux City, so I am saw a Dr. Espinoza at Mayo. I think I'll use him for my annual in June. He seems to know his stuff. Keep in touch. I would love to hear how he does. David, this cold weather is terrible. I live in Michigan where its freezing. I avoid being outside during these fridget temps. When I was in cardiac rehab I was told not to be out walking or for long when temperatures are below 30 degrees. No snow shoveling ever. To keep your chest, mouth, warm using a scarf.
I would talk to your doctor, and stay inside whenever possible. I had a mitral valve replacement on July29, 2014.
Stay warm! Sending hugs from Michigan!
