Debbie, try taking a 25mg benadryl before bed. This helps me to sleep better. A friend of mine who is a physician assistant recommended. Works like a charm.

Benadryl was actually used as a sleeping pill back in the 70's.

Eleanor R Debbie, my surgeon's PA actually "prescribed" the benedryl at the smaller dosis (25 mg), so it must not affect the heart at all. It does work, most of the time!

Hi Debbie, welcome to this amazing site! Dr. Accola replaced my bicuspid aortic valve almost 5 months ago at Florida Hospital Orlando. I was so blessed to have him do my surgery! I know you're having a different surgery, but I just wanted to tell you how wonderful he is! Florida Hospital is also great! You will have the very best care there! Debbie Poole Thanks Tammy. I have heard so many good things about Dr. Accola. We were very comfortable with him when we met him. I am also a Christian and have not had very much anxiety at all (yet). I know God's got this and my husband is so supportive and our two boys (14 & 29 yrs. old) and family will be helpful also. Did you have any nausea from the pain medicine?

Tammy Pilcher I only got sick and threw up once. It was the first night after surgery. The ICU nurse (also named Tammy) was so sweet! I was apologizing and she told me not to worry about that at all and she cleaned everything up. After that, I didn't get nauseated at all and I was able to have pain meds whenever I needed them. I actually didn't need a lot. Surprisingly, I had very little pain.
