Hi Debbie! I had a bicuspid aortic valve. Guess what? I don't anymore! I'm two weeks and two days from my surgery. I'm feeling good. I hated the hospital, well that's badly said. I hated MY STAY IN THE HOSPITAL. But I'm out. I'm feeling better and better. You will too. These surgeons are amazing. They will fix you no problem. Like you I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve. Evevery day of my life I lived with a defective valve that regurgitated blood back into my heart so as to make me pump some of the same blood every heart beat. At 57 years old, for the first time in my life my aortic valve is now efficient. NO MORE LEAKING. SO you might say I much more better than I have ever been in my entire life! Just as you will be. Get ready to feel gooD! (after a little time of course). So what else is there to say other than congratulations to you! God bless.

Hi Debbie, I am so proud of you, preparing for your surgery by loosing weight. I am 85 and I had open heart surgery at 73, and yes, I prepared for my surgery by loosing 35 lbs., so my porcine valve is 11 years old. I am checked yearly with my echocardiogram and other procedures, but so far I am managing. I also had a bicuspid aortic valve, and if they have to replace my piggie, they will also go through the groin. My operation was a few years before TAVAR, so a lot of progress has been made since then. So glad you are part of Adam's family, for support and the latest information about heart surgery. The best to you on you new adventure.

Hi Debbie,
I had the same surgery 11 years ago this Nov. 10. Had a Medtronic Freestyle Porcine valve and an Dacron sleeve placed on my aortic root. Recovery took about 2 months and was uneventful. I was scared and nervous before the surgery but after all was said and done, I would rate the whole procedure about a 3 out of a possible 10 ( 10 being the worst ) for pain and discomfort. Stay positive and follow doctors orders and you will be fine. The past 11 years I’ve lived my life without restrictions and have felt better than ever! You will too. Prayers for you on your upcoming surgery.

Hi Debbie
Yes I will be glad to get this over with. I told my friend I wish I could just sleep until Tuesday so I can quit stressing about it.
I have been eating everything in sight. It’s like I want to eat my favorites one last time. I hope that goes away! My husband went to the store to get stuff to make when we get back home. He has already been an amazing nurse to me.
Good luck to you on Tuesday. I will be praying for you. I’m sure you will do great.
Take care Valve Sister!!
