Kimberly Eisenhut Yes, Deena, shoveling snow is just a no no. Do almost anything else please. An old friend of my familys husband had a massive heart attack with no warning at 39 years old shoveling heavy snow. Was in construction, great shape and otherwise healthy. She had 3 girls under the age of 5 at the time. Just not worth it. She was left with raising 3 children on her own and ws from Germany and hardly spoke any English to boot. Not an easy time for sure. She is doing well now and girls are all grown, but I would not wish that on anyone. I used to be very stubborn about it too and did it anyway often, but a few years ago I had pretty bad pain afterwards and felt like i couldnt breathe. I stopped after that.

Does make me wonder that some of the surgeons state lifting very heavy weights or pushing cardio full max is ok after a full recovery from OHS surgery.

I can only say this about sled dogs and including shadow we have had 6. 4 huskies and 2 malamutes. All had predatory instincts regards small animals. Yukon used to catch birds in mid flight. Cassie, my heart surgery girl, as much as i loved her had a string of incidents including a woodchuck that got into her pen , we were not home but it must have been ugly requiring snout stitches on her but her favorite was rabbits. The mystery was why they kept going in her pen. One would think the word would be out in the rabbit facebook page that certain death awaits in this enclosure. Of course she always got worms after so another vet bill. The vet used to say laughingly, oh oh, cassie ate another rabbit.

Maybe yukon our alaskan malamute way back when may have taken the trophy when he wanted in while we were out and ate through the kitchen wall. When we returned, there he was inside wagging his tail wanting to know why we were upset. That one was expensive.

Richard Munson It was in january and it was a hole you can only dream about. He weighed in at 130 so picture size of hole. He ate one stud in half. It was a 5 hour demolishing project. As it turned out, we had a carpenter convert the opening to a door in the spring but the rest of the winter it was a piece of plywood. Way way back we had a husky named nikita who tore the drapes off a window and converted it into bite sized bits. Just today i was eating a store bought blueberry muffin and the paper cup fell on the floor. It was inhaled in one piece so fast by sweet little shadow i never had a second to extract it. Into the mouth, over the gums, look out stomach hear it comes. We love them though.

So… my neighbor has three dogs, one is a husky.
Husky killed mother and father squirrels in spring. Why, dunno.
They adopted their baby squirrel to attempt amends. Baby stayed in their home for 5 months and then was released. Lives nearby now. Huskies- no dull moments .

I am sorry to hear about maxie. Parting with loved ones is an awful phase of life and i know how ugly it can be. Maxie was more than just a bird for you, he was a link to your past. We had a chocolate cream cake for the birthday bash. The cream being vanilla pudding of course. It was amazing. I was given the ok to drive but with dark glasses so i may visit a local car show today with top up to minimize sun glare. Might try a brief shadow walk monday. No pulling allowed. Bending down also a no no as it puts pressure on your eyes. Nancy can be our pooper scooper. I am so far pleased with surgery results. I think you said your friend had the laser option. If it works, it was worth the out of pocket 2 grand.

Deena Z You so got it. Maxie was a major link to my past. Yes, my friend did have the laser cataract surgery and it cost (drum role, please) $12,000 out-of-pocket and then was told to bill his health insurance to receive reimbursement for the traditional surgery payment. (Went to a surgeon in an upscale area of Washington, DC obviously.) Not sure what he ended up getting back in $$. Cake with the vanilla pudding so much better than icing. My neighbor just made a chocolate cherry cake. The filling was rum-soaked cherries. Can't get that at most bakeries, of the few that still exist today. Have a relaxing Sunday and enjoy watching your better-half scoop-the-poop!

What was the cake for Nancy's birthday? I thought you liked coconut. As for my parrot, you have a good memory! She was my Mother's and was given to her by my eldest brother; both of whom passed away decades ago. Maxie was put to rest two years ago, broke my heart, but she was really suffering from a major stroke. I know you totally get that. She was my buddy for 21 years and about 90 years old in Maximillian Pionus parrot years. A good ride, but too short for me, of course.

You are right about it being a part time job to be an advocate for your own health. It is easy to be brushed off and to just roll over and take it. I understand the concept, after all, they have a ton of patients. But i care about his most important patient, me. After getting all the rubber stamp questions so they can fill out the paperwork there never seems to be time to discuss why you are actually there. Don’t be looking at your watch on my visit. Knowing that requires a little extra push back during your face to face, and not hostility just taking a stand regarding your own health. I now also do it at the vets. Shadow needs me to be his advocate. I”m up to it. Why a written list of questions is a good thing. It’s the old adage, they put their pants on the same way you do. Not sure thats politically correct any more. Lol.

When you take it at home the directions say to rest for awhile beforehand. At doctors, you walk a mile to the exam room , sit on the table and they slap it on.

Shadow loves other dogs and is only 60 so its tougher. People can be very stupid and rude in todays world. Have you ever seen clips of the idiots at yellowstone taking selfies with bison and wondering why they got mauled? I am very protective of my people, my dogs and my stuff.

Deena Z Hi Michelle, if they are going to go in and do a "fix-up", it's great to get it done ALL at once, right?! The hardest part of the post-surgery for me was the incredible fatigue. I didn't realize that my body could be that low on energy. It got a lot better after day 2 or 3. I wish I had known that beforehand., so sharing that with you. Will be thinking of you and praying for a fast and successful recovery. Hang-in-there.

It was a great day for a car show. Got a sun burn on my arms. Another trophy. Enough already. Yes, my t shirt got a lot of thumbs up. Its funny and refers to the great gas prices a few years ago. My girl only gets about 10 mpg but i might be heavy footed on the pedal. My magna flow mufflers sound great when i put the pedal to the metal.

May I ask how long after surgery did you taje anticoagulants? And, do you take after that aspirin and how long ? Because I am 7 month after mitral valve repair, and 6 months was on sintrom, after that 1 month of so called baby aspirin, but red that no longer aspirin is recommended.

So here is the good news, if there is such a thing. I won’t see the oncologist/ radiation person until 5-23. Reason: because they insist on a second opinion on the pathology report prior to meeting. They send the biopsy samples to brigham and womans for a second opinion. Brigham and womans in boston is one of the top hospitals. This takes one step out for me. I was happy to hear that news.

Funny you should ask if i charmed the nurses. The first face i saw waking up was my beautiful wife and head nurse nancy, sitting by the gurney. My feet hanging off the end made for some interesting conversation. After my ohs they had a bed extender but not for this. my appointment was for 1:45 pm. At 9 am they were already on the phone asking me to drop everything and come in due to cancellations. So all those pre op instructions were out the window. Finally got in at 11 after some rushing around. Fastest enema and shower ever. In that order of course. My first enema in 82 years . ugh. Hopefully my last. Give me the colonoscopy pills any day. What cemented my nurse bond was when we got around to talking about dogs. Swapping photos and stories. At one point i had a cluster of 4 while the other poor patients had to wait their turns. Oh well. Nancy said later that i’m full of it. No idea what she meant by that. Lol.
