Hello Helen- Just me but at the age of 65 I had a bovine tissue replacing the Aortic Valve in August of 2014. I talked to my cardiologist who is wonderful and my surgeon only once but whom took the time to let me hold both the mechanical and tissue valve sample in his office in my hand. I asked him what he would choose if it were up to him and he said at my age and in my health that he felt the tissue was the way to go and my cardiologist agreed with him. As technology advances I also believe that by the time I need a new valve there will be advancement where I can probably put the next one in myself!!! Seriously. After having had the surgery for me, it wasn't bad enough that I fear having it again if I have to in the future and I believe in the progress in medicine. It is in truth a large decision but I know from learning from my Heart Sisters and Heart Brothers that both valves give us a second chance and are able to do the job we need. Good luck to you in your choice and I wish you the best of luck you are happy with it! Take care Heart Sister and know you are up for this challenge!
