Gee it is coming up fast! Still have not picked the valve!! I think it is the hardest Choice to make for this surgery! If anyone out there has any advise I would LOVE it! I am thinking of the ON-X Valve Mechanical or the Magna Ease by Edwards..I am a 60 yr old female and I guess it would have been better if I was over the 65 range!! Still a very Hard choice to make ! Coumadin Vs another surgery?? Hugs to All..and God Bless

Charles Haas I am up for a mitral valve repair on October 5. My surgeon is 95% sure that the repair is possible, but has strongly advised the mechanical in the event he needs to replace, since his experience with tissue valves is maybe 10-15 years, and I am 63.

Doran Herritt I went tissue to stay away from Coumadin even though I am 47. It is the Edwards valve. Hoping technology comes along by the time I need replacement. Tavr was just approved for moderate risk patients, so it will be coming to low risk soon. That means ohs may be a thing of the past in 5-10 years. If I chose mechanical it would have been the Onx. So you have narrowed to two good choices. There have been several debates on exactl y this. Go back through. You will see the posts. Not that they will help. It's a personal choice. Once you make it, you will find peace. Hang in there.

Helen Yad Food for thought! I will look into them,, Have both of your opinions to think about ,,Going for a tissue valve and maybe the future will be a TAVR ..by then not soo bad? Or Going with On-x and a low dose Coumadin.and maybe a future with aspirin only..and no more surgery..wish I had a crystal ball?? Have a call in to my other DR. so maybe get some more ideas,,he has known me for 15 years..all the bumps and bruises..maybe then I will decide.Thank you for the input you both gave me something to think about! Enrique K Helen, I am 41 years of age and all my surgeons recommend the mechanical valve but I have already made my decision going with a tissue valve: When I told my surgeon that I am an avid snow skier and his response was you will never be able to ski ever again. I said to myself I am very active and love contact sports. I will not want to to change my lifestyle at all after I recover. Plus, I have heard many people talk about the opening and clicking of the valve, Coumadin and higher chance of getting a stroke if you don't take care of yourself. My decision was without hesitation. Good luck in your decision and let me know if you need further input. Sending you lots of prayers for your upcoming surgery.
Helen Yad Thank you for your input Enrique.!! I am for sure going to think about it all! Hugs H

Lori Rees Helen, I am 57 and my surgery is Oct. 5. I am having a tissue valve put in. My cardiologist suggested mechanical. "One and done". The cardio thoracic surgeon said all the cardiologists they have interviewed wouldn't want to take Coumadin for the rest of their lives. You can't miss a day. Then if you fall, you can be in a real mess. I fell in January and had 5 broken, displaced rids. I shudder to think if I had been on Coumadin. It might last 5 years, or 25 years. The next valve will probably be put in through the femoral artery. In going with that idea! Good luck!

It is a personal choice to make ,but feel it is the right way to go for me !! I have soo many prayers coming my way I feel like I am going to pull thru this with flying colors!! I have a few more days till I have surgery for Aortic Stenosis to have a valve replaced. I have been anemic or it would have been done a little while ago! I am soo torn as to which valve to go with.I am a somewhat active 60 yr old female>>I have read a lot of your post and soo enjoyed them knowing there is a website like this here to hang out on! I don't know how to put it under upcoming surgeries to the right? It will be bright and early Friday Oct 2nd..If any of you can give me a few more ideas that may help me with this decision it would be Great! I soo enjoy reading the after surgery post ,so it gives me a little more courage to go thru all this? It is nice knowing that you all were faced with the same things as I am at this point! So I am happy that you are all on the mend! If any of you have any input to which Valve to go with,,I will take it All in with stride! I think that this choice is the hardest one to decide?? Not soo much the surgery that is Funny! Well thank you all my heart buddies out there! Will keep you all posted..God Bless
