Jason, you are one day ahead of me. Looks like you have made it to the top of the upcoming surgery list at April 5th and I am 2nd on list at April 6th. Will be following your progress. I am 72 but elected to receive the On-X mechanical since I plan on living forever. I'm wishing you the very best with your surgery and God's blessing. Looking forward to hearing from you on the other side!

Hello Jason! My two-year anniversary is tomorrow (March 5). I was 42, and have an On-X mechanical valve. I take coumidin every day. I can swim for hours, walk for miles, kayak all day, and I've never had a bleeding issue. Heart surgery is scary, but very do-able.

I am seven weeks post op with the same issue you have. The valve itself is your choice and if you don't want mechanical, you can say so. I chose it because I'm 47 and never want to go through this again as long as I live. The other valves do not last a lifetime, and at our ages, it's pretty sure they will wear out before we are ready. I am annoyed by the ticking noise of the mechanical valve and the blood thinners, but that is nothing compared to having a pig or cow valve replanted when it fails and never knowing when that could happen.
