Hi John, looks like I am going in hopefully for a Mitral Valve repair the day after yours. I am also having a Maze Procedure because I have recently had bouts of AFIB. Wish you a successful surgery.

Hello John my fellow Marylander! So Dr. Gammie is doing your mitral valve repair huh? You have picked one of the best in the business when it comes to mitral valve repair. Dr. Gammie is an excellent cardiac surgeon with an outstanding surgical/medical team. That was one of the most comforting things for my wife and I concerning this whole open heart surgery thing, along with our faith in God as well. No worries John. Dr. Gammie is very experienced in mitral valve repair and does at least 4 or 5 of these a week, sometimes more. On the day of my surgery (November 19, 2018) I was Dr. Gammie's second operation that day, and it was still early morning. He may have done another surgery after mine, I'm not sure, but the point is that it is key and very critical to a successful surgical outcome, having a surgeon who does a lot of the type of surgery you need. You have that in Dr. Gammie. To answer your question: I was in ICU for two days and in the cardiac step down unit for 4 days, so a six day hospital stay total.
