Hi Michelle, My cardiologist had been following the severity of the stenosis on my aortic valve for several years ( also bicuspid) but my symptoms were not as bad as they looked on paper. The health system I have my insurance with has a certain "number" that I had to match up to before they would operate. Once I got to that number I had noticed my breathing was changing and I was short of breath ALOT. The Dr told me that I would know the difference ....and about a month before surgery he was right....it was like someone pulled the plug - my stamina started to diminish, I was so out of breath - moving from the living room to the kitchen, I knew this was not good. So I say all this to say ...YOU WILL KNOW. You will know its time to get it done and get on with it. Its the best thing I did, I wish they would have done it years ago. Its a small inconvenience in return for many years of life that I would not have had without the surgery. Good luck to you. You will know when its time.

Michelle Popham Thanks for sharing your story Deb. I see a lot of similarities in our stories. I have had the bicuspid valve all my life too but didn’t know though until recently. But like you a normal life until it seemed to bother me pretty quickly. I am almost 52 now. You give me hope that whenever I do have the surgery that I will feel much better. And probably wonder why I waited to schedule surgery.

Deb Yednak Michelle - I just turned 72 - and probably only had 2 years left if I had not had that valve replaced. Yes, it was uncomfortable for two days, but - small price to pay for the reward! You are still young and Im sure you will do great and have many years of good times ahead. I wish you the best!
