John Jones I know it's easy for me to say on the other side of surgery but try to stay calm. In my case on surgery day the process seemed to "just happen". I went out telling a joke and next thing I knew I was in Icu. I'm having my ups and downs recovering but all in all it's not as bad as I anticipated.

Rodd,
I read about your surgery today....you should be in CV Recovery tonight. I had severe aortic stenosis and my aortic valve replacement was 11/12/13. I am a cardiovascular nurse and now work in Cardiac Rehab. The first week is a challenge, but take it one day at a time. You will be surrounded with skillful caregivers and supportive friends. Your new heart valve is going to be your best friend, helping you have the strength and energy to accomplish your life goals.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Rodd I had a bovine valve in 2010 at 67 a now at 73 the dr. said it working great. I did not see anyone say they had the Ross operation like Adam Pick and Arnold S. had I guess it last a long time did you check that out. Good Luck. Rodd we should all be happy we were born when we were because years ago we would of not made it as they did not have these operations.

Then on the 16th I will meet him for results and we will see if I have fallen off the top of the fence to get fixed. Hope all is good with you.

Good news Rodd! Just to share...when I was diagnosed with aortic stenosis several years ago, I began researching the various heart centers in the country. Cleveland Clinic was always rated #1. I decided that when the time came for surgery, I would somehow find a way to go there (I live in South Carolina). Luckily, everything worked out with insurance, etc. I struggled with going so far away from home, it being such an inconvenience for my family, the added expense of flying, etc. In the long run, my family said \"go to Cleveland\" and so I did. I don\'t regret it for one second. My surgery went so well it was practically a non-event for me. I was discharged on day 4 and flew back to SC on day 5. It really didn\'t cost that much for the flight, all things considered. We stayed in the Guest House right across the street from the hospital. Not luxury by any means, but entirely adequate. I wouldn\'t try to push anyone or anyplace on anyone, but I will say this...listen to the \"little voice inside\"...if it tells you to go to Cleveland...go! Good luck with your journey!

Hi Rodd, You are in a good spot with your faith. When I was told on my 65th birthday last Sept. about what the echo said I came unglued. Even though I knew about the murmur for about 5 years. After that I joined my church and a lot of stress was relieved from me. I could feel the faith. Then in Nov I was baptized. And these docs keep telling me to quite worrying about this. Im not, at least not as of yet. You can read my journal you will see it runs in my family. Not a whole lot there as of yet. Now I am going to be seeing another doctor, so I hope I get better answers other than what the last one was saying.
Oh I love Seattle. We were there visiting a while back. Went to the Olymic Penisula and Mt Rainer to Paradise and the fish market. Just loved it there.
Well talk to ya later

Hey Rodd,
The HVJ is the best website to be a part of. We all have been through this. A lot of questions still have to be answered. I had my aortic valve replaced 2/6/12. I am feeling so much better since surgery. I am thankful for surgeons and technology that give us another chance to continue with our lives. Take care and God bless!
