Hello Sharon, We have a lot in common!
I am a 69 year old retired RN, great family, having mitral valve repair/replaced on November 29th. Had no clue I had a problem until August 25th, and still find it hard to believe. Very healthy until then.
Hugs and prayers coming your way. I am very anxious to have the surgery as soon as possible......Mom had it 20 years ago and was fine, just fine. So being a "cup half full" person, would like to have it tomorrow, if possible.
Will follow your progress, wishing you a speedy recovery, and sounds like you have a great support system, so you will do fine.
Hugs,
Bonnie

*We have an Ottawa Heart Hospital about 2 hours from here, but Mom was fine, recuperation was easy, and no infection, so did not see any point travelling.

Hi Sharon
I fully understand your fears. May I say that I had my surgery in Sept. (26th) and I'm 6 weeks out. I also had the fear and tried to talk myself out of the surgery. But when reality hit I had 2 doctors and my husband who said it had to be done. If I didn't have it done by aorta would have continued to enlarge and I could drop over dead at some point. I could not do that to my grand children. I have 12 grandchildren and one great grandson and a baby girl on the way in February. Realize that they need you and you want to spend time with your grand children and dog and your entire family - they need you and you need to think of what it would be like for them if they lost you. We have to be brave sometimes. It's hard and the recovery is not easy - but time will make it all better. I'm 68 - married almost 50 years.....so we have a lot in common. Sisters in surgery!!! Be happy to encourage you whenever you need it. Everything is going to be okay!!
