You remind me of a horrible doggie moment ages ago, think it was our beloved nikita who got in the trash and pulled out a tomato soup can with the cover almost off from the can opener. He slashed his tongue way down near his throat and was bleeding like a faucet. Weekend of course. We tried direct pressure with a wash cloth , nancy holding his mouth open, me on the cloth. Took about 20 minutes to stop gushing blood while he thrashed around fighting us every minute. At the end we all collapsed on the floor from exhaustion.

Richard Munson It was a nasty day. After we stemmed the bleeding he proceeded to throw up the remains of the tomato soup and blood of course all over the rug. Took a lifetime to clean it up and then he threw up again in the same place. One of those moments in time we look back on and chuckle. Not funny at the time of course.

Dear Shelly, Your fear is understandable and warranted. However, the skilled surgeons who perform these procedures are nothing short of miracle workers. On October 28th 2020 I had a 7 hour surgery here in Portland Oregon to replace 3cm of my aortic root and also had a new Edwards Life Sciences aortic valve replaced. The surgery went well and I have recovered perfectly as I know you will. Let us all know how this all works out for you. Sincerely, Dave Raynor

Annette Sterzel Dear Shelly, 7 weeks ago I had my Mitral valve replaced, tricuspid valve repaired and a maze procedure. Before my surgery I knew for 5 months before and I worried everyday as I never had surgery before. It was all I thought about. I prepared for the surgery for weeks. My family? Close friends and prayers got me through. For me the hardest part was being wheeled to operating room once there I don’t remember a thing next thing you know they are waking you up. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. 🙏

Richard Munson Good luck monday the 10th. Both shelly and shadow having surgery the same day. A two fer. Post surgery can be stressful for the caregivers as well as the patient. At least with the human side you can say shut up and take your pills but trying to keep a very high energy puppy quiet for a week or more will be a test. So shelly, best of luck monday, take your meds, wear your cone and no jumping on the couch for a couple of weeks. Its a roller coaster ride but worth it for a longer life.

Richard Munson You will be in my thoughts for sure but my focus of course will be getting my little guy home safe and sound. Monday night will be tough on you and him but it gets better as the days go by. I found that once they took the chest tubes out, life got better. Some simple things like drinking a lot of water, using the little deep breathing apparatus they give you and coughing out the ugly stuff using the pillow of course works miracles. My first cough was without the pillow. Omg. The more you help yourself the better. Also don’t go home too quick if you don’t feel you are ready. Like most hospitals they want to fill the bed chop chop.

Don't get me wrong, you will be very weak and sore for awhile but you will do fine. During recovery listen to your body and don't try to over do it. Prayers for you. 🙏🙏 🙏🙏

Hello Shelly, Just wanted to check in and let you know how amazing the team is at Mayo. You will be in the best hands with them! My surgery there went great and pretty uneventful. It is scary but know that it is done very frequently and they know what they are doing. I was released in six days and am feeling very well now. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks. If you have any questions feel free to ask me…. I’ll do my best to answer. Are you doing mechanical valve, pig/cow or are they able to repair?

Grace Mason Yes, more opinions. One the 30th, and I've been waiting (o the stress of waiting) to hear from scheduling at Cleveland as Dr Roselli wants a new CT scan. Beautiful granddaughter! Prayers your youngest son does not have either. My youngest had no abnormalities in his echo but he does have pectis excavatum, so I still worry about a mild form of connective tissue disease and I will be asking him to do follow up scans as he gets older. Hopefully no aneurysms in any of our progenies futures
