This is day 5 now. I finally had my first bowel movement a day and a half ago. That made me feel so much better to get that part done. My stomach had been hurting that night. The last couple days the only issue I'm having is food is not very appealing, and my heart rate is in the 100-110 range. Anybody else have issue with their heart rate being high? Blood pressure, oxygen, and other things are fairly normal. Since I haven't been eating very well my nutrients have been a little low which they have been replacing with supplements. Energy has been a bit low mainly due to the higher heart rate. I am walking three times a day and using my incentive spirometer. My pulmonary valve was replaced good and my tricuspid valve was repaired fairly well. I feel like I'm very close to being on the right track. They ate discharging me tomorrow even with the heart rate.

Rita Savelis Typically one is prescribed betablockers after heart surgery to slow the heart rate down and give one's heart a break after what it's been through. I can't imagine one's energy being anything but low in the days/weeks following surgery! I was exhausted. It's so very very early for you. Let your body heal. Take care.

Susan Lynn David - You look marvelous! Don't worry about the elevated heart rate - they wouldn't release you if there was the slightest concern. As Rita said, they may prescribe a beta blocker that will bring that number down. As far as eating goes, eat whatever you like - I only craved fruit and ate a ton of it in the hospital. You'll figure out what works for you over the next week or two. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Day one in the ICU. It's 7:00 in the morning after my surgery. I'm in some decent pain in the chest but mainly when I breathe deep. Thought the tube out after about 4 hours of waiting. It came out easy. I've been super groggy. It's hard for me to focus my eyes. For some reason I can't read very easy. I've been sleeping like a log since I woke up. All I want to do is sleep

Thomas Brusstar Great work! Thanks for taking the time to give an update. I found the pain went waaaaay down once they pulled the drainage tubes from under my rib cage. By 48 hours post surgery I found regular Tylenol adequate for the pain. Get some rest. Sleeping is good!
