Rose Madura Hello Jean. It's great that you did your research and got more than one opinion. And, its appears you were your own advocate. I don't recall much pain. Stay ahead of it with the meds they offer and asap, switch to Tylenol. You are in good hands. Godspeed.

Susan Lynn Welcome Jean! As Ana said, you certainly are beautiful! Good for you for being proactive with your health and staying active. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised that surgery and recovery will be easier than you thought. Our imaginations tend to be far worse than reality. As Rose said, take the medication when you need it and you'll find that your healing will progress faster than you thought possible. I found that the general fatigue lasted for awhile, but I felt almost fully recovered in two weeks. You're going through the worst part now - waiting. It all goes quickly after you arrive on game day. Enjoy the quick nap and being on the recovery side in what feels like one minute later. All the best to you! ❤

Richard Munson Well, this site is full of mitral valve stories including mine. I think the main reason not to wait is that there are better odds they can repair it not replace. My chamber was also enlarged and has shrunk since my surgery a year ago. If i said i had no pain , i would be fibbing even with the minimally invasive surgery but it was certainly bearable and besides whats wrong with a little pain among friends. In my case, they entered my body between my ribs and in doing so, they cut a few nerves i am told. Nerves take time to regenerate. The first month if I turned a certain way i would get a sharp pain. As my grandmother used to say, so don’t turn that way.

Richard Munson I know the feeling. When i was being shaved just prior to touchdown i asked the person if i could back out and he said no. Besides my wife had already dropped me off and it was too cold to run outside in my skivvies. Good luck james, you’ll do just fine. If a total wimp like me could do it, you will have no trouble.

James Breland Thanks for the encouraging words Richard. I joked with the surgeon and told him they better hurry up and drug me so I don't run out the door.😂

Richard Munson We’re all pulling for you. When you zonk out, you are really out. No dreaming either. The next thing i remember was them yelling for me to wake up. I think the recovery room nurse said i used a dirty word before actually coming around. You would not be shocked if you knew me.

Richard Munson If you weren’t nervous would you be normal? Hey, sounds like fun, lets have open heart surgery. You will be anxious right up to the moment. We all were. After its over you’ll wonder what the big deal was but until then, its nerve wracking. I have often said before i went in that no matter what i think about to keep my mind elsewhere is that its always the elephant in the room that i could not totally ignore. You’ll do great. Just keep busy and don’t let it possess you. We are all pulling for you.
