Jeff V.  This is my 19 year old daughter, Olivia. In 2003, at the age of 8, she underwent MVR surgery for severe mitral regurgitation at the Cleveland Clinic. The pediatric surgeon was not satisfied with the result of the repair so he changed course midstream and replaced the mitral valve with a St. Jude mechanical. The surgery was a success and though on Coumadin, she has thrived. Olivia is a healthy, determined and strong-willed young lady who is studying in Germany for a year!
It is now my turn… I will soon undergo mitral valve repair, aortic valve replacement along with ascending aorta/left pulmonary artery plasty at the Cleveland Clinic. Olivia set the bar for bravery and courage incredibly high. I have been equally as moved by the resolve of so many who have shared their stories on HVS.com. I have found great solace and inspiration from this community and have grown much more confident about what lies ahead. Thank you!

  What a beautiful young lady. And those beautiful eyes speak volumes, life is for living and she is doing just that. And now you get to make her proud when you come through your surgery and regain a healthy heart so you can enjoy all that life has in store for you and your family. Good luck to you Jeff.
