About Me (In My Own Words)
Hi to everyone who has just signed on to our journal. Please know that Donna and I appreciate your encouragement and support. We will try our best to keep this journal updated. We know you all are incredibly busy, we don't expect you to add anything else to your to-do list. If you find the time to check in every now and then, our prayer is that you will find knowledge and encouragement in this journal. We signed up for this journal so others would have a better idea of what to expect if they need to go down the same road.
Our Story,
So, I was diagnosed with a "heart mummer" in 1980, at age 16. 6 years ago, a test showed that it had progressed slightly, but still not to any significant level. My next test, 3 months ago, showed a significant increase in regurgitation. The technical name for the diagnosis is Mitral Valve Prolapse with Severe Regurgitation. Many possible symptoms come with this diagnosis. The symptoms I am experiencing are unusual (for me) fatigue regardless of the quality of sleep, periodic tightness/pain in the chest. The most disturbing symptom for me is when my heart has one huge pump, like a basketball being dropped from 10 feet in the air, between the regular pumps. So, this disease does not go away on its’ own. Medications will not help at this point. O.H. surgery is the only alternative. The good news is that we have secured Dr. Clifton Lewis at the Structural Heart & Valve Center located in Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham Alabama. My entire family is 100 percent confident in his and his teams' ability to address this problem.
Now we wait to hear from Dr. Lewis’s office to schedule the procedure.
Thanks again, -Destry and Donna
