About Me (In My Own Words)
I am 26 years old. I was involved in a motorcycle accident in October. I was diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve and a dialated aortic root. The accident was a blessing in disguise as they found my dialated root from an MRI done on my back. After seeing a doctor in my city of providence I was referred to mass General to a team of specialists. After tests were done they determined that I did in fact have a bicuspid aorta and my aortic root is dialated with an aneurysm to about 5.4cm. They also found my heart to be very larger than normal and is not beating to the capacity it should be. The doctors and surgeons told us they wanted to operate on me much sooner then later. They want to try to repair the valve rather then put a mechanical one in. That was 2 weeks ago. And here I am 2 weeks away from my first ever kind of surgery. They believe the heart is bigger from the bicuspid aorta and the amount of blood rushing back into it. They are very optimistic that the heart will heal and get back to normal size once my surgery is complete. Given that is the first time I am ever having surgery and going under anesthesia to say I'm nervous would be an understatement. I found this website and decided to join because I thought it would be good to talk to other people going through the same situation
