About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello Heart Warrior family!
My name is Cathy. I am creating this profile for my husband Jeff (he is not a blogger)
We discovered Jeff had a heart murmur in May 2017 during a routine exam. Subsequent testing revealed mitral valve prolapse, which remained unchanged until recently. In December 2018 the Echo showed severe mitral regurgitation, and his heart is becoming enlarged. The cardiologist said it was now time to get this fixed through surgery. This was a huge shock for both of us! He is 51, very active, and doesn’t have symptoms other than occasional heart palpitations/skips.
My husband and I dealt with this news very differently! He preferred to mull it over and not stress about this. I immediately searched the Internet, desperate to find out every bit of information about this upcoming surgery.
My search led me to Adam’s book, and this site. For that I will be forever grateful. I have spent hours reading your stories, and learning from your experiences. I’ve prayed for you, and rejoiced in your successes. As an anxious wife, I have found reassurance and knowledge in this community. You have helped to transform me into a more prepared partner for my husband. Thank you.
We are meeting with the heart surgeon on February 5th, with a tentative surgery date of February 7th. Jeff has already had the TEE and heart cath, and this should be a mitral valve repair rather than replacement. We are hoping for robotic minimally invasive surgery. I have a list of questions for the surgeon based on this site. Thank you again to Adam and all of you for this wonderful platform!
