Jeff W Hi, it’s cathy. Here is Jeff at the post op checkup with his surgeon, Dr Balkhy. Everything is going great and Jeff is back to all normal activities! For anyone investigating types of surgery, based on our experience I would 100% recommend doing robotic minimally invasive. Jeff’s surgery was a mitral valve repair - he was released the next day and has had minimal pain. I know not everybody is a candidate, but if you are it’s the way to go! Dr. Balkhy is a rockstar in my eyes, and his whole team at University of Chicago Medicine is the best, most professional group we could have ever imagined. I am truly so grateful that we found such a skilled surgeon. Once again thank you to Adam for creating this site full of resources for heart patients!

Hi, this is Cathy. Here is Jeff two weeks after surgery! He says he is surprised at how weak he was. But it’s baby steps in the right direction with a healthy heart!! He still has days with some pain - the nerve pain right now is his main complaint.

Jeff W We’re going home!!!

Sending a BIG, BIG thank you to Dr. Husam Balkhy and his whole team at University of Chicago Medicine!!!

My husband Jeff had robotic, minimally invasive mitral valve surgery yesterday to repair severe mitral regurgitation. Yesterday!!!!
And we’ve gone home tonight. I am amazed and deeply grateful for Dr. Balkhy’s expertise.

I can update in the next few days when we are settled. We are staying in a hotel tonight to get some sleep before drive home tomorrow. Both of us are so surprised and pleased with how well he’s feeling!
