We met with the surgeon today and had all our questions answered. Going ahead with surgery Thursday Feb 7th. Jeff and I both are anxious but feeling mostly at peace with the surgery (as much as you can be anyway!).

Hello! I am Cathy (Jeff’s wife). I created this profile so I could thank all of you for sharing your stories. You are all so brave! Jeff’s surgery is “penciled in” for Feb 7th. Sometimes i let the worry get to me, but reading the encouraging posts on this site has been amazing!

Phyllis Petersen Hi Cathy, I had my mitral valve repaired in October 2016 by minimally-invasive, robotically-assisted surgery. Initially after surgery, I felt like I was run over by a train, but was amazed how quickly a lot progressed in recovery. I was able to shower on my own in the hospital, which was a beautiful blessing. Within a week, I was able to do a one mile walk, taking breaks when needed. I was driving 4 weeks after surgery for short trips. It was a steady line, though, and I did tire more easily. Rehab progressed quickly, especially compared to others in the Wellness Center who had open sternum surgery. All the best for Jeff with his surgery and recovery.
