59 year old female from Canada.
Severe Aortic Stenosis. Getting a St. Jude's mechanical valve AND an ascending aorta replacement.
Found out 10 years ago that I was born with Bicuspid. Cardiologist said "live your life like a normal person." So I did ! quite active ...mostly cycling. I was very surprised Sept 2013 when Cardiologist said "now." I thought my "symptoms" could all be explained away by getting older ... and carrying a few too many pounds. Only 3 days left now before surgery (10 years too soon !) But thank goodness there is a solution. Hoping that I don't get bumped again ... and that recovery goes well. Not TOO scared ... just worried about living with anti-coagulants. Will I be able to cycle again without cutting and bruising myself and bleeding ?? will have to be less "clutsy" I guess !
