We know that Covid19 is a bigger risk for people with 'heart disease.' I am wondering if, having been "fixed" - i.e. having a artificial aortic valve - means that I still have "heart disease."

ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY .... feeling happy and grateful today. Last year at this time I had no way of knowing for sure how my open heart surgery would turn out. Now I am enjoying retirement, relishing grandparent-hood, back to cycling, doing yoga, learning to play pickleball and (tomorrow for 1st time) dragon boating ! (also kayaking and zip-trekking in Hawaii )
Thanks to ALL my supportive friends and family and especially one amazing hubby who took weeks off work and was there every step of the way, one fabulous daughter who came to the hospital every day, and one terrific son who came all the way from Saskatoon ... three times !
Love you guys !

Linda Whitney You go girl! I can't wait to get back to yoga. My breathing has finally increased, I'm walking an hour a day now, and I hope to just keep steady and slow improvement. Your testimonial gives me hope and I can see that light at the end of the tunnel.

Have had my new mechanical valve for exactly one week now.
Been home for two full days.
Today is the worst .... increasing over roughly 4 days .... with my right upper thigh feeling like pins and needles.
Anyone know what this might be ??
(doctors and nurses are probably right .... likely just from sleeping in hospital bed and sleeping in "wrong" position for too long??)
Got home in time for dinner; after 6 days in hospital, sure feels good to be home.

I am lucky to be getting a brand new mechanical aortic valve installed tomorrow. (hopefully I will not be bumped again). One of my concerns is waking up with the ventilator tube still there. How often does that happen and how uncomfortable is it? Does it mean there are problems if tube is still in when you wake up? Thanks everyone for sharing your own experiences.

Ah, the darn blood thinners for ever more. Small price to pay, I guess. Anybody out there wish they had opted for tissue valve instead of mechanical because of the meds ?? OR I will I come to think nothing of it?
My surgery is in 3 days. I hope I don't get bumped again.
Besides the blood thinners and need for constant testing, I guess my biggest fear are waking up with a tube still in my throat.
Thanks for everyone here for sharing their experiences.
