About Me (In My Own Words)
It all started about a year ago, summer of 2023, when i noticed I was having breathing issues, and thought I had asthma.
Going to my GP revealed a heart murmur, and so in the next few weeks I was ordered to have an echocardiogram and consult a cardiologist. This confirmed mitral valve disease - both stenotic and regurgitating. An angiogram was then set for September, and the results were confirmed.
The following month, i met with my surgeon, Dr. Spooner who advised me that I would require a mitral valve replacement, sometime the following year.
Late November, i had received several high heart rate and atrial fibrilliation notifications on my apple watch. This prompted a trip to emergency, where it was discovered I had atrial fibrillation. This was stabilized with medication over a week, and i was set to return to the hospital for a catheter ablation in the near future - this has already occurred in April 2024, and was successful. Re evaluation will occur in another month or so.
I had a surgery date of June 21, 2024, however, im in school and taking exams that week, so now I am waiting for a new date, likely the first week of July 2024.
I think thats it..! Thanks for this website. Its been motivating and reassuring to see other people’s experiences.
